identity
Theme: The third installation in our hope you have a good time art show series
Curatorial Statement
welcome to the third installation of hope you have a good time. the theme of the show is identity. artists within this show responded with their work to the following concept: identity as embodiment - the concept that our biology, environment, and lived experiences all contribute to our sense of self:
- biology (race, gender, sexuality, health, physical features),
- environment (family, community, society)
- lived experiences/spirit (memories, dreams, goals, aspirations, traumas)
over 40 artists are contributing to this concept with art pieces bending medium and lived experience together. as a group, we begin to see how the identities of multiple individuals begin to create a community. our identities are formed by the communities we exist in.
this show explores how the way we view ourselves is a bidirectional relationship between every individual.
within the still art gallery, our game this time is a bingo card. if you choose to play you are prompted to see what elements of your identity align with those of the artists presenting.
as you explore this show and the theme of identity, we hope you consider how your identity is informed by your embodiment, and how you inform the identities of those around you. we also encourage you to consider how you can utilize art, in ways similar to the artists here, as a practice of expression in your own life.
welcome to the show. we hope you have a good time.
