Curatorial Statement

welcome to polar opposites, the second installation from hope you have a good time. This installation features 45 artists and explores the subjectivity of life. Within our lived experiences, what we perceive to be good or bad are highly subjective to the individual. Participating artists are responding to the following question:

how have you used art to process what you have lived through?

The artists in this show are sharing pieces that explore this theme in one or two ways.

  1. The artist has experienced or is describing something positive to them
  2. The artist has experienced or is describing something negative to them

for our second installation, this show contains a range of art mediums that represent just a fraction of the ways humans express themselves and topics include loss, food, heartbreak, acceptance, distance, and more.

within the still art gallery, we built a game for you to play that assesses your ability to guess someone else’s subjective experience. it’s possibly you are right 100% of the time, but we are excited for you to learn how the artists use their craft to represent themselves.

for attendees, the goal of this show is to showcase the ways in which art can help us process our lived experiences. you may not view yourself as an artist, but art is always here for you, as an avenue to express yourself. we encourage you to enjoy the art, talk with artists, your friends and strangers alike. thank you for being here and sharing space.

we hope you have a good time
