curator's statement on hyhagt
mission statement on the importance of art based community
early february 2024 i started hosting a meetup for my friends that i called 'show your art'. this little gathering of 5-10 people continued and october 2025 i had the idea to curate a group art show. hyhagt primarily showcased the work of artists who had been through my living room. talking about their work and providing feedback to each other. on december 13th we had our first show for artists to talk about their work. except this time at a bigger scale and involving anyone from the community.
the first show was called 'hope you have a good time'. why did i choose this name? honestly, i wanted to better understand what i could do to feel less anxious about everything in life. saying 'hope someone has a good time' is very nice wish to give to someone. i hope that the shows we run continually create a space for people to be in a community with this kind of kindness.
we've had three shows now and i believe that these intimate settings for art experiences matter a lot. getting to build a community around you that helps you make things that are bigger than you is a gift. i'm not 100% sure what the direction of hope you have a good time will be. but thank you for being here at this stage, this part of the mission.
